Default Having your man card revoked

This weekend, I was involved in organizing a 4th of July concert/fireworks show. In the course of things, myself and a few co-workers had to do several things that we don't do in our day-to-day lives. We discovered that we couldn't do alot of this stuff, at least not easily. We all generally felt like sad excuses for men at these times. Examples:

We borrowed some ATV's to drive around the festival grounds. A co-worker and I went to get them. We discoverd in the course of this that 1) We didn't know how to hook a trailor to a hitch. 2) We didn't know how to operate an ATV 3) We can't back up vehicles with trailors attached. It's that whole you turn one way, the trailor goes another way thing. This was very pathetic.

A different co-worker and I went to pick up a moving truck. We got there and realized neither of us could drive a stick.

Anyone care to share some typical "man things" that you can't do?

Everything that I hire someone to fix or maintain for me. That is, everything.

Would it make you feel better to know that I can do all of the things you can't do?

I think that goes under the heading of "dumb" rather than unmanly.

I'm a computer dork shut-in and I can confidently do all those things.

Congrats on your entry to womanhood.

The first "we" is the collective body of people working on the festival, which included people who knew how to operate one. The second "we" is myself and the guy who went with me to get them. I had to drive it onto the trailor at the dealership and had never been on an ATV before.

A friend once "revoked my man-card" for having never seen Swingers. The rest of us agreed that using the term "man-card" made said friend extremely gay.

I have since seen Swingers and had my "man-card" given back (thank God!).

Most of the things you listed have a ton to do with where/how you grew up, however I do think most men should be able to do them.

I lose my man card because I'm fricken horrible with directions in any sort of urban area.

You are not alone in the backing up of the trailer. When I was 15 I worked at a resort on a lake with a boat landing. I learned the skill from my boss. It was the best place on the lake to back in a boat even though it wasn't a straightshot in. I probably had to put about 1/4 of the guys's boats in the water for them. Some macho 25 yr old with a big truck would take 2 tries at it and skinny twerp me would have to come and take over for them.
