Default NYC summer restaruant week coming up. Recs?

Basically, eateries in the NYC area are holding a promotion where you will be able to get high class food at middle class prices. It tends to be a good deal and those particiapting in this can be found at
http://nymag.com/restaurants/article...week/index.htm

I've gone a couple of times before and was underwhelmed. However, several posters here like Daver and El D seemed to have had great experiences at this event. I can probably make it to no more than 3-4 places this year. What should my picks be?

I have eaten at both L'impero (Italian) and DB Bistro Moderne (French). Both are very good, and I still have fond memories of the waterless homemade pasta I ate two weeks ago at L'impero.

I really like Gotham Bar & Grill.

However, I have also been underwhelmed with my Restaurant Week experiences. I've done it 4-5 times, and maybe had 1 good meal - the menu is usually way too limited.

If anybody strongly recommends any of these, especially on the upper west side or midtown west, I'd really like to know. If anyone wants to try a few of these let me know too.

If you like seafood, give Esca a try (43rd + 9th). Some of the best seafood I've had in the city - one of those meals that can be perfect from the bread --> dessert.

I don't know what their restaurant week menu looks like, but I think you would be satisfied.

I've had good Rest. Week meals at JoJo and the now defunct Union Pacific.

I have been vastly disappointed by Restaurant Week. The service blows, and the shortened menu doesn't really equate to a "great deal" as one might think. I'd rather pony up the real menu prices for great food and drinks during non-Restaurant Week.

Tabla, 21 Club, Tao (becoming overrated as hype has become so huge), Blue Fin, China Grill, as well as some of the others already mentioned.

That's what I thought. At least I'm not alone.
