Default Shipping a car

I'm looking to do this to avoid the hassle of selling my car in NY and buying another car in CA, but after reading a few review sites I haven't found a single company with a solid reputation across the board.

http://www.transportreviews.com
http://www.autotransportreviews.com
http://www.epinions.com/Moving_Compa...ws--15580_auto

I have a strong feeling that a lot of these reviews are fake. Tons of reviews on one site, none on the others. So has anyone ever shipped a car cross-country?

This is a dumb question, but why don't you just drive it to CA? It's a bit of a hike, but you'll pay a fortune in shipping fees othewise.

When i moved from the New York to Phoenix 6 years ago it would have cost me more than 1k to ship my car. Im sure its more expensive now. I wound up driving instead, which cost me much less. I think its the better way to go if you have 3 days to spare and dont mind driving long distances.

Another vote for driving yourself. See some of the country, and pay less than you would for car shipping + airfare.

Are you guys serious? It's 3,000 miles from NY to CA. I went crazy driving to and from school, and it was only 200 miles away.

Cheap way to get it done:

Call a buddy up, tell him you will pay for hotel/gas/1 way airfare home and 500$ cash on delivery if he drives it up, you take a plane. When he gets the car to you, you kill him and throw him in the river.

Drive, it'll be a good experience. You don't have to bomb through it, take a week and see some cool [censored]. If you can drag a friend along so much the better.

Yes, driving across the country will be a lot more interesting than driving to and from upstate NY or wherever.

Any real American would relish the opportunity. You're not a communist are you?

Alright, you lame turds. I'll talk it over with my mom when she gets back from vacation and if she's cool with it, I'll cancel my flight and drive the [censored] 3000 miles like a donkey.
