New Jersey shuts down. Will the AC casinos also have to close?
News Story
The Governor of New Jersey shut down the state's government. The casinos cannot operate without state oversight. From the article [ QUOTE ] Casinos may close too, although the governor's chief counsel said that matter is now up to the courts. A bid by Atlantic City's 12 casinos Friday to get state monitors declared "essential employees'' who would stay on the job despite a government shutdown is now before an emergency appellate court panel, casino association lawyer John Kearney said Saturday. Re: New Jersey shuts down. Will the AC casinos also have to close?
The only way i can see this happening...them staying open is if they somehow convice the state that they will take over the paying of the control comission guys but I think the gov will see this as a conflict of interst...
This is going to suck...I have rooms for the 4th, 5th, and 6th comped and without poker Ac has nothing to offer |

Re: New Jersey shuts down. Will the AC casinos also have to close?
This thread is ridiculous. Of course the casinos will close, they will close as of Wednesday as per the news and Governor Corozine. The legislature is closed during the holiday, its inevitable.
The casinos only hope is to have the oversight employees deemed to be "necessary", but the chances of that happening are pretty slim because they don't save peoples lives. This will be decided in the courts (which is odd because the court system is closed too, but will be open for special cases only). TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

*TT* - How is the thread ridiculous? It is a simple question. Answer the poll with your opinion of whether or not you think you think the casinos will close.
BrooklynPoker - I agree that would be a conflict of interest. I do think the casinos could argue that the state monitors should be essiental employees as it will deny the casinos millions in revenue as well as stop hundereds of people from working. |

Re: New Jersey shuts down. Will the AC casinos also have to close?
The casino's are scheduled to close at 8am Wednesday at this point. The casinos’ planned shutdown time of 8 a.m. on July 5 was set by Casino Control Commission Chairwoman Linda Kassekert, who said closing gambling operations during the crowded July 4th weekend would pose a threat to public safety.
Today, Monday, budget talks broke down after 40 minutes. Governor called an emergency legistlative session for forth of july. I believe I read, casino's lost their court case to keep gaming open, but plan to appeal. |

I have a room booked at Borgata july 10-11, I'm so excited to go and will be really disappointed if this screws things up. Do you think it will be resolved by those dates?

I hope it's resolved by those days. I just saw the news that talks yesterday broke down after only 40 minutes though so who knows really.

Re: New Jersey shuts down. . . just wondering out loud
Just wondering: If the casinos and the state shuts down, will the Dept of Labor remain open to process the 40,000 or so unemployment claims for casino workers? Question discussed by Mr. and Mrs. Lanzalot last night b4 turning in. Mrs. L works at Resorts.
Bottom line: this state is fcuked up. |
