Default PT/Computer problem

Am using my old computer as I am on vacation now and I can't get PT to open. When I try to open it, it says " Error, out of memory"

And then there is a message that pops up that says Windows is out of virtual memory.

Computer is a few years old. Is there anything I can do to fix this? If not, I will be willing to reinstall Windows of anything else i have to do to fix this virtual memory problem. I don't want to buy a new HD or anything like that though.

Thanks.

It sounds like you are running out of RAM, not disk. You might be able to increase your virtual memory so it will swap more to disk. Of course, that will be brutally slow if you get it to work.

A better solution would be to buy more RAM. How much do you have now? Adding RAM is much easier than reinstalling windows.

Take your box to Circuit City and they'll put it in for you while you wait (I imagine).

I have no problem doing it myself as long as it is rather simple.

If they will do it for you while you wait, it must be pretty easy!

Did you know that VIP Auto Parts will install (for free) things like light bulbs and wiper blades that you buy from them? I can do those sorts of things myself, too, but if they'll do it quickly and for free, I often take advantage.

Installing additional memory is a very very easy thing to do. Do you know what motherboard you have in your computer?

No, but it is a Dell Dimension 8100, a couple years old if that helps at all.

I imagine if you check the dell support site, they'll have instructions for upgrading the ram in that system listed somewhere.
