Default Tips to a sitngo dealer, how much?

Hard Rock casino on Fl., $140 SnG 10 people:

1st place=$585
2nd place=$350
3rd place=$225

Basically theyre taking 17% off the top, what would you tip for each paid position, if anything?

PS. they last no more than an hour, and the dealers keep their own tips.

At that rake, God himself wouldn't be profitable, so I'm probably tipping $5 and feeling my normal happy-go-douchebag way.

1. Determine the percentage of each places winnings to the total prize.

Total prize = $1160
1st: 50%
2: 30%
3: 20%

2. Let x = the amount of tips you feel the dealer should make for the SnG. If your not sure, you could base it on how much in tips you think a dealer should make per hour.

EXAMPLE:
Suppose the SnG lasted 45 minutes and with set up and breakdown time etc. you figure the dealer has 55 minutes invested. You think a dealer should make $22/hr in tips.

The time for the dealer is 55/60 of an hour. 55/60 times 22/hr = $20.

1st place tips $10.
2nd place tips $6.
3rd place tips $4.

This basic approach is good, but you're basing the tippage on the payout rather than the profit. The guy who got 3rd is making $85, 2nd is making $210, 1st makes $445. So the profit breakdown is about 60%, 30%, 10% and that's the more appropriate ratio for splitting tippage.

And yeah, $240 off the top to deal a <1 hour SnG is robbery.

how about $1 - this is extremely justified & they should appreciate it more than $.50

They are taking $240 out for 45+ mins. Say an hour.
Compare that to a regular game, either rake or time collection.

Let them pay the dealer.

I won third in an S&G there a few months ago. First, people are incorrect in their estimate of less than an hour -- the one I played in lasted an hour and a half and the dealer spent at least 15 minutes setting up and waiting before we got started.

I ended up tipping $10 for third place and received a very dirty look from the dealer. Apparently I was being too generous.
