Is it -EV or +EV if the table knows you\'re a Pro?
OK, I'm not like a Doyle Brunson pro, but technically I am a pro. Ever since I lost my job I've been playing small stakes poker (and making more than at my old job) plus running my family business with my wife.
Anyway, is it +EV or -EV for a table in a B&M cardroom to know the extent of my experience? I can imagine people getting out of my way more often and occasionally paying off some big value bets if they think that I'm a pro. Is this true, or should I keep my status a secret? |

You should definitely wear sunglasses and wear an ipod. Maybe a unibomber sweatshirt will help.

Actually, I've found that the sunglasses help A LOT in short stack situations in a small stakes tournament.

does not matter.
The WOW factor is not there these days. 1. They will think you realy are 2. Think you are full of BS 3. Not even care 4. Forget about it in a few minutes the real down side is, if enough know you play for a living they will know you carry a ROLL around. This would be the only reasone not to say much about it. |

Re: Is it -EV or +EV if the table knows you\'re a Pro?
Well all it does is change your image... some players will be afraid of your bets as you are a pro and have to be betting with a good hand, others will see pros as big bluffers, as is typical in any poker game, its all about knowing how you are perceived and different people will perceive you differently
Please dont sit at the table and just proclaim "I am a pro", I have seen people do this which is dumb, if someone asks what you do and you say play poker, thats fine, just dont go out of your way to say that, for 8 months my only job was playing poker, a lot of the players knew that but I dont think it made them play me any differently than they would have palyed me otherwise, granted I palyed with a lot of them before that point and I am in the midwest and the pool of players playing higher limits is small so people typically ended up playing in games with a lot of the same people all of the time and knew each other well |

[/ QUOTE ] Are they getting out of your way or paying off your bets? It seems to good to be true for both to be the case. Anyway, I think a lot of your value in live games comes from acting like "one of the boys". |

Re: Is it -EV or +EV if the table knows you\'re a Pro?
i agree...when people ask me what i do for a living I tell them photographer ( http://www.pbase.com/josephwcarey ) while in fact most of my income comes from playing...
I prefer to sit and laugh and keep the game loose. Making them realize that I'm thinking makes them think more and will sometimes make them realize that a 3 off is not such a great hand... |
