Default Speeding ticket or police escort?

Here's the situation - I work about 40 minutes from the hospital. My wife is just over nine months pregnant and there have been some complications - nothing major, just some concerns about blood pressure and diabetes. She could go off at any moment, and they will do a C-Section, so there will not be a long labor. I can't, and I mean CAN'T stop working until she goes into labor. At some point, I fully expect a call at work that tells me I need to haul ass to the hospital.

I'm pretty sure my truck will do 95 before the governor cuts in. (I haven't been able to figure out how to disable the governor - damn Chevrolet anyway). The speed limit on this stretch of highway is 60.

What do you guys figure the odds are of me getting a ticket if I get pulled over by the state patrol. Can I ask for an escort to the hospital, given the situation? Assume that I will be completely polite and compliant with the officer and not a douche, but that I may come across as a little panicky.

What do you think? When it comes down to it, I'll probably risk it. The chances of getting pulled over aren't too great in the first place, and this is my wife and baby we're talking about.

Think you'll be fine dude. Gas it up.

Must be an old Chevy if you can't get it over a buck.

it's an '03 Avalanche. It gets up into the 90's faster than you would expect, but Chevy puts in governors that cut it out at around 95. You can chip it and adjust the governor to 120, but beyond that, it's a 6000 pound truck, not a race car. It's never going to be really fast.

I'm thinking it's really going to depend on the trooper. If they have kids, they will probably understand, but if not and they are in a crappy mood, I might be in trouble.

Drive fast, police are understanding if worse comes to worse you might get a ticket. Pay it and move on or go through the courts fighting it. Cops are usually understanding.

I think a cop would have to be a major [censored] to give you a ticket in this situation.

Drive to the hospital at 70; avoid the ticket and the 15 extra minutes spent explaing to the cop when he pulls you over.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I'm really bad at math so I'm probably off here, but it looks like you'll save eight minutes doing 95 instead of 70.

As folks have already said, if you get pulled over you'll be stopped for 15 minutes.

But then again I've never been in your shoes and I expect when I get there I'll probably be doing 95.

Best of luck man, hope everything works out for the best.

Sorry to be the party pooper, but.....

The fact that your vehicle's speed is electronically limited at 95mph is probably the #1 reason for you not driving that speed in that car. Do you want to make your wife a widow before she becomes a mother?

100.00% if you drive by a trooper along the way. 0.00% if you don't. At that speed with little traffic it's usually all or nothing.

I doubt it... you don't technically need to physically be there for a successful delivery to take place.

Then even if you don't get a ticket, whatever time you would have saved by doing 95 will be lost dealing with the cop, especially since you won't be doing 95 afterward.

I think either you have a very, very, very important job, or your boss is a total douchebag for not letting you leave until the absolute minute she goes into labor. What gives?

You should be more concerned about getting into an accident driving at your truck's maximum speed and killing yourself because.............

I wish it were more of the former and less of the latter, but unfortunately not. It's nice to be needed, but the place isn't going to catch on fire and explode if I weren't there, and it will be there when I get back.

Good points, though. The thing is, that I agree. I shouldn't be driving that fast, but I can't explain how tough it is to be that far away and to not be able to be there. It's going to be hell driving normal speeds knowing she's in pain or being wheeled into surgery without me there.
