Default Why so many shortstacks?

I'm a recent convert from limit to NL full.

Why do so many players sit down with $5,6,7 dollars? What is the thinking behind this?

No thinking, that's why poker in small stakes is so easy.

Essentially to irritate the big stacks.

In all seriousness though, its a reasonable strategy for weaker players, less tough decisions to make postflop and often big stacks get way too aggressive with them. I know i do all the time. Some good players play shortstacked but generally only as short as 30bb or so.

Baring a few players using a Ed Miller style shortstack strategy it is mostly weakplayers with small backroll looking to gamble a bit.

My girlfriend for one quickly realized that NL cash was very dangerous, so she quickly devised a system of taking 5$ to a 0.25 table and gambool without the risk of losing much.

The 6max tables are worse than the FR tables for shortstacks imo.
