Final Pot: $1.69 I didn't really have any reads on my opponent yet.... however this was the first time my opponent had raised into anyone though on the river. Usually he would just call with a bet on the river when he seemed unsure if he had the best hand ....My opponent played this hand like a draw to me (straight or flush) and even though I was getting a little more than 4 to 1 to call my instints were saying to fold ...that my opponent hit either the flush or the straight. Did I make a horrible laydown here? What range of hands could I put my opponent on besides a draw? |

it's 40 cents and you have trip aces
raise more preflop and probably overpot flop and turn...i can't imagine they're folding draws at this level for >PSB |

Did I just make a horrible laydown on the river with my trip Aces? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, that was pretty horrible. [ QUOTE ] I didn't really have any reads on my opponent yet [/ QUOTE ] So no reason for unusual plays [ QUOTE ] however this was the first time my opponent had raised into anyone though on the river. Usually he would just call with a bet on the river when he seemed unsure if he had the best hand [/ QUOTE ] Ok a bit of a read but still not enough. [ QUOTE ] My opponent played this hand like a draw to me (straight or flush) and even though I was getting a little more than 4 to 1 to call...What range of hands could I put my opponent on besides a draw? [/ QUOTE ] He didn't play it like a draw unless he knew you had a set and expected a river raise...he didn't get enough on the river to justify his turn call. He can have a lower set, 2-pair, a pair with this line...MORE than enough to justify a call. In fact, given the line you might think about a value raise on the river. [ QUOTE ] my instints were saying to fold [/ QUOTE ] You are not Luke Skywalker |

I'll be the only one to say its not horrible... but its not great either.
There's a decent chance you're beat. It would seem the only had he could be calling with is a flush. But what if he wasn't drawing? What if he had a lower set? Hit 2 pair on the flop? What if this is the one hand he decided to bluff? Another person who responded to you made a good point: Even if you pay the guy, he didn't make enough for it to be a profitable play. Though I don't condone throwing good money after bad... if you know you're beat, any additional money is throwing it away UNLESS.... There is something to be gained in calling: you get to see what he's doing. After all, you have the Ace of diamonds. Was he calling with a baby flush? An OESD (six nut outs). Also... perhaps paying him off will make you play better knowing that you didn't lay down the best hand? |

He will have the flush here regularly, but not even close to 80% of the time. So with 4:1 odds it's a clear call.
