Default When should a father stop bathing his daughter?

So I told my wife about 6 months ago that I don't think I should be giving our 4 year old little girl a bath any more. She responded, "Well, what would you do if I wasn't around anymore? You would have to do it right?" So I succombed (sp?) to her argument and forgot about it. She is now 5.

Today, after my daughter and I got out of the pool, I went upstairs to her room with her to help her dry off and change, and she started to closed the door on me. I asked her, " Do you want me to stay out while you change?" and she did.

It has been going back and forth for about 2 months with my daughter about wanting, and than not caring about, her privacy. I'm going to talk to wifey tomorrow about it again. Bath night is kinda like a chore between the two of us, so it will be a battle.

What is the right time for a father to stop bathing his daughter?

I'm sure she will let you know when she doesn't want you in the room anymore.

seems like it should be a shared chore between you and the wife until kid is old enough to do it herself...note that i don't have kids so whatever...

I initially read this as "When should a father stop beating his daughter?".

I think I was bathing myself by age five or so, with parents checking in to make sure I wasn't drowning and was actually bathing. I kinda kept to myself as a kid. I wouldn't worry about it if your daughter has no complaints, I say just start moving her towards the bathing-herself end of things and leave yourself out of it when that's feasible.

That's the thing, does that over ride our interpretation of her comfort level. Does my interpretation count more than my wife's because I'm the father?
