Default Party $11 - AK UTG

PartyPoker $11 Regular Tournament, Big Blind is t200 (6 handed) Converter on pregopoker.com

Hero (t2050)
UTG+1 (t2075)
CO (t1220)
Button (t6380)
SB (t1950)
BB (t6325)

Preflop: Hero is in UTG with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
<font color="red">Hero raises to t2050 (All-in)</font>, <font color="gray">UTG+1 folds</font>, <font color="gray">CO folds</font>, <font color="gray">Button folds</font>, <font color="gray">SB folds</font>, BB calls t1850

Flop: (t4200) 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)

Turn: (t4200) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)

River: (t4200) J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)

Have a hell of a time with AK. I hate pushing with 10BB UTG with 5 to act behind me. With the whole table to act it seems like I'm always going to be on the short end of a flip. Anybody like popping this to t500 and shoving on a friendly flop?

That was my first thought and the way I always play it. Just wondering if anybody else would play it differently with 5 to act behind. At the $11's you're basically getting called by any donk with AT or higher so I guess that more than makes up for all the pocket pairs that call.

Why pushing in this situation is right:

1) better hands may fold (i.e., small underpairs)
2) dominated hands may call
3) If called, AK extracts full value by seeing all 5 cards
4 (and perhaps most importantly)) If you raise, you're calling a push behind you anyway, right?

I agree with all that except #1. Day in and day out in the $11's I see people calling with any pocket pair.
