Is paintball unwatchable on TV?
I get absolutely nothing out of watching paintball on TV. It's impossible to follow what's going on. You just hear the players screaming, and the announcers occasionally say, "oh, <player> got hit!"
They need to put cameras on every single player so you can see what they see. They also need many more cameras on the playing field. The playing field also needs to be made to look more interesting. Anyway, does anybody think this could be a somewhat interesting thing to watch if they actually broadcast it well? |

I don't get cable sports channels so I can't tell if this is a joke or not. You're not seriously telling me that there's televized paintball in the US?

No idea why it's on. [censored] ridiculous. I'd rather watch those black guys playing dominos.

watching them play on the same field with a bunch of inflatable bunker like things is lame. I think they could do much better but it might cost too much.

Re: Is paintball unwatchable on TV?
yeah it is pretty terrible to watch. the only part that isnt bad to watch is when its down to 2-3 people total because then the camera is on just about every person. overall though it is terrible to watch.

I watched that for five minutes, out of sheer morbid curiosity, and it was like watching an SNL parody. The commentary was irrelevant ("he's got three fives on the board, that's a big advantage," just before the other team made the obvious move and won) and even the players looked bored. ESPN is trying to find the next Spelling Bee. |

Re: Is paintball unwatchable on TV?
It's weird because you can tell they put some budget and some effort into it. And I know that assault contest on American Gladiators was fun to watch back in the day. So the general genre of people diving among objects while dodging bullets has potential.

Re: Is paintball unwatchable on TV?
Paintball coverage nowadays is 100 times better than it used to be, but it's just an almost impossible sport to televise. The cameras on players idea won't work because of how important it is to be just barely behind the bunkers.
X-Ball would be a lot easier to televise in that it's a very fast paced game with lots of point scoring. Of course, the problem still is that from any certain angle, you can only see half of the players at best. |

Would it help if they did more split screen or picture-in-picture?
