Default Wedding gifts

A friend of mine is getting married on Saturday, and I was told by another friend that if I couldn't give a gift of at least $100, I shouldn't give anything at all, and instead should wait until I can afford it. My financial situation is stretched right now, playing poker a lot but not at limits where I could consider myself a pro. I graduated with my M.A. recently and am still looking for a job, hence the lack of financial stability. I'm nearing the point at which I may need to cannibalize part of my bankroll, though hopefully not if I find a job soon. That, and I'm not nearly as close to this friend as I was in college since he kind of made his buddies an afterthought once he started living with his girlfriend.

Since I don't know what to think about this, I humbly submit my situation to OOT for its expert analysis.
