Default Sit out on Big Blind, play after button.

Hold 'em Question.

Not really good sportsman ship, but by sitting out the hand when you're up for the Big Blind, then coming back, you get to post your big blind one off the button.

Surely this is a better position to have your money in blind, and has better pot odds to call any raise.

The only disadvantage I see, is you miss playing on the button, but you also miss playing from the two worst positions.

Does this sound like a good play, or have I missed something.

(I am a semi-beginner, mostly playing .50-$1 limit)

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

You can't get the button if you haven't posted the BB and the SB. You will be asked if you want to post when you will be in the CO.

Use the search function, there was an interesting discussion on posting from the cutoff a while ago.

Ah ... you do realize that if you miss your blinds, you post BOTH blinds one off the button, not just a big blind? The small blind is dead money, goes straight to the middle of the table. That's a disadvantage - when you post a small blind normally you are halfway in to the hand.

So, you're posting the same amount of money per orbit. Being dealt 7 hands instead of 10, and having 1/3 of your money taken away from you outright instead of it being a live bet, doesn't seem like such a good deal to me. Do you really think being in position with your garbage is worth THAT much?

your talking about when you first sit down right? If that's the case... I don't see anything wrong with posting your first BB in the c/o position rather than in the blinds.

I prefer to just wait til I'm BB...unless I've just been itching to play, and post my blind in any position

As I posted in the other thread, if I'm new to the game, my PokerTracker stats say that posting in the cutoff is wins me less/costs me more than taking the big blind.

When you throw in the dead money from your small blind as well, you are taken even more of the worst of it.

It's a no-brainer: If you get up when it's time to take your blind, wait until the blind comes around again before sitting down again.
