Who has more impact on a football game - a Linebacker or RB?
So I had this debate with a friend the other day over who impacted a football game more - a RB or a linebacker. Which has more affect on the outcome of the game? Obviously the extremes on both ends will be more impactful, but what about overall in general?

I say Linebacker if for no other reason than the Lions had the greatest RB of all time and they still couldn't win sh*t.

absolutely a runningback. obviously, a good pro bowl caliber running back isnt as valuable as the best lineback in the history of the universe. however, of comparable skill levels RB>>linebacker
a good power rusher can carry a team on his back and destory opponents, even with a crappy offensive line. A good ILB without support can't do anything because he'll be blocked too often |

There's 4 linebackers on the field at any given moment, and usually 1 RB, often with a FB blocking for him. It's apples and oranges.

I think this is less extreme replication of the "Who is more important: a great Running Back or a great Offensive Lineman"
A surprisingly high number of people vote OL, but they fail to consider that a great running back is certainly more important than one lineman (and a great line will do way more than one great running back). Yeah the Bears didn't win anything when Payton had no defense, but they aren't doing anything now with whom many consider to be a top 3 linebacker in the league. |

Who cares? Without their teammates doing their part, a single RB or LB is not going to make a damn bit of difference 99.9 percent of the time.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, they did nothing but win 11 games, win their division and make the playoffs. They must really suck.
