Default Online cash games

I am a 3-6 limit player in B&M and have recently started playing cash games online seriously. I've played a ton of the fake money stuff because it is free practice. I am having trouble figuring out what level I should pay at. Since I am a 3-6, do I play that level online, or should I drop it down some? Are the skill levels comparable? If it is any help, I play at Full Tilt, so if people know about the games there. Both limit and NL suggestions are welcome, PL too.

Also, is it easier to play HE, or are the other games soft? Could I make money at Razz, etc?

Definitely drop down a limit to 2/4 or even 1/2. Without a doubt, online players are much tougher than their live cournterparts.

Start with the smallest real money limits available. Online play is generally better than B&M play. Read the appropriate forums -- Micro-limit Limit forum, Small stakes pot limit & no limit -- to improve your game. That includes participating in the discussion of other hands, posting your own hands, etc.

Generally HE is significantly softer than other games and offers more game selection. There's also more reading/help available in HE. So that's probably the game to start with, adding other games at a latter point if that is your thing.

That depends what you want to do.

If you play $3-$6 live because that's the amount of excitement you want, you can get it playing $3-$6 online. Lower limits might not be as much fun for you if you don't care about winning a $12 pot.

If you play $3-$6 live because you are afraid you can't beat higher games, then you should play no higher than $0.50-$1 online if you want to win. Online games are much, much tougher than live games of the same stakes. People don't go to a casino to fold. They don't want to drive home thinking about how they would have flopped the flush, or rivered the gutshot. Online, the players are tighter and more of them can find the fold button.

The lowest stakes NL games are always full of fish. If you play a live NL $100 game with a $2 big blind, this will not prepare you for an online NL $200 game with a $2 big blind. The play is closer to an online NL $25 game with a $0.25 big blind.

3/6 online is nowhere near 3/6 live. .5/1 online is more like 3/6 live.

Play whatever your bankroll allows you to play. Just remember to use bankroll management.

Just last week I saw part of a show with the Full Tilt pros giving advice. One of the questions was "Which games are looser? Live or online?" The unanimous answer was online. I hope their other advice is more accurate.

I'm sure it is looser online at the high stakes these guys play.

Have a Mac, that limits me to FT, Hollywood and Poker Room. I play basically only at FT now.
