Prison life
Every time I watch a program on TV about live in prison, the biggest thing among prisioners is respect. Apparently, if you don't show respect; you become a marked man and will get raped/killed. Now you also have to gain respect, otherwise the same thing will happen. I find it ironic that the same people while in society showed no respect for the law yet behind bars command it. But anyway, why is respect considered such a powerful thing in prison? I mean, how much respect can one get when he is forced to spread his asscheeks in front of a bunch of cops or take a shower with 50 other guys at the same time?

Re: Prison life
I'd rather spread my ass cheeks for the cops, as opposed to some big, ugly con named Bubba.

Re: Prison life
i don't think it's so much about respect as it is about control.
in prison, intimidation, violence, and fear allow the strong to dominate the weak. dominance is control. control is power. there is probably far more contempt for those in power in the prison setting than there is respect. |

Re: Prison life
think of every fascist leader of the worlds history coming together in a room, and having X amount of time to come out, appointing JUST ONE the ruler of the world.

Re: Prison life
I don't think the prisoners are delusional enough to think people actually respect them they just want to be shown respect. If people fear you and they are unlikely to talk to you disrespectfully that doesn't mean they actually respect you but it's good enough for most cons.

Re: Prison life
"Respect" is just about all convicts have left to be concerned about in prison.
