I am sure this has been asked before but the search function didn't produce any threads.I Have played blackjack at casinos before but my play is average at best. Looking for a blackjack book to study up a little before a trip to Vegas in March.
Are there any books that anyone can recommend. Amazon search turned up quite a few and I knew this was the place to head me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for your time. Flash |

you can get basic startegy charts online for free. I personally like www.blackjackinfo.com.
also bear in mind that different casinos in Vegas have different table rules which may affect what the optimal plays are. the best deal for you might be to by the American Casino Guide 2006 by Steve Bourie. not only does that have the correct BJ charts and strategy explanations for that and all other major casino games, but there's hundreds of good LV coupons in the back too which pays for the book and then some. |

Try the books/publications section of this site. You might have better results.

Average play is losing play.
Are you looking to simply get charts that tell you what plays to make? (This may cause blackjack to become very boring for you, and will still have you losing money.) These are available all over the place. There are some small adjustments that get made based on the conditions you play under. If you are willing to count, then we are in business. Try Knockout Blackjack by Vancura and Fuchs. It probably has a near-optimal combination of ease and power for people just learning to count. You are probably going to make more money(or lose less) than if you try a more complex system (because you are going to make fewer errors). |

As Basic as you can get, but still informative. Plus it's small enough to carry to a casino in your pocket.

the best "small" basic blackjack book is probably the one by Basil Nestor. $1 less and less than half the size.

Professional Blackjack by Stanford Wong is a good book, but I would recommend Blackbelt in Blackjack by Arnold Snyder. The third edition has a lot of content added and is an excellent text for the beginner and expert alike.
Check out Arnold's website www.blackjackforumonline.com also to be fair check out Stanford Wong's site www.bj21.com. You should be able to get adequate info simply from the articles on the sites, specifically bjforum. -Shaggy |

Shaggy is correct. "Black Belt in Blackjack" by Snyder is the best book to get. Everything after that is icing on the cake.

You are the second person in the last few days to recommend Blackbelt in Blackjack. I last looked at the book years (5?) ago. At the time, I much preferred Knock-Out Blackjack by Fuchs and Vancura. What am I missing? (Or is the new edition of Blackbelt that significantly improved?)
