Default Detroit area question

On July 19th I will be playing in the Canadian Poker Tour up in Point Edward, OH. I plan on going to Detroit the day before. Is there any place that I can stay that is close to both poker rooms? If not one close to Greektown or Motor City that is good? Also how are the Greektown tournaments?

I think your best bet is to stay in a hotel by the airport. Reasonable prices, probably a lot safer, and you'll be about 20 minutes out. I've done it, worked out fine for me.

Greektown and Motor City aren't very far apart so you'll be fine no matter where you stay.

The area around Motor City is not good and will not find any hotels close by. (within walking distance) Stay at the Atheneum Suite Hotel. Its connected to Greektown casino by a walk way and is one of the nicer hotles in the city. Its also within a mile of just about every place you would want to go in downtown detroit. (bars, restaurants, nite clubs) Last time I stayed I payed about $120. The area is safe and is within walking distance to alot of restaurants. Try Perasus wich is inside the casino for some really good Greek food. As far as the tournaments at Greektown go I have never played them but have heard from alot of people they suck. I believe its $125 buy in, not alot of chips and a fast blind structure. As far as cash games go they only spread a few diffetent games. You will find a ton of 1/2 NL (100 max), 1/2 NL (200 max) and 4/8 limit holdem. Their will also be one table of 5/10 NL (300 min/no max) and maybe a 20/40 round by round. (half holdem/half omaha hi)If your your looking for 10/20 limit holdem you will have to go to Motor City.

It's Point Edward, Ontario (in Sarnia, just east of Port Huron, MI). Not really anyplace close to both, unless you want to stay 40 minutes from both places in a Detroit suburb along I-94. Personally, I would perhaps stay at the St. Clair Inn or the Thomas Edison Inn in St. Clair, MI. Nice views of the river and good restaurants.

If you are looking to play mostly limit poker, you are better off driving from Point Edward to Brantford, ON. If you are looking to find a NL game, you should go to Casino Windsor. The 18-21 crowd is allowed to play there. If you really want to check out both of the Detroit casinos, I would suggest you valet park at both of them. I would not stay anywhere downtown, especially if you have a large amount of cash on you. The airport (take I-94 westbound)hotels are nice. There is also a strip of hotels on Woodward and 12 mile(take I-75 north). You may be able to get a comp at Casino Windsor, although I doubt it. Also take I-76north to 14 mile. There are a few around there.
