Whenever I taste gin, I'm reminded of a line from Tommy Boy.

"Went a little heavy on the pinetree air freshener there?"

Or something like that.

Yuck gin.

Bombay Sapphire is a good solid gin with strong, classic, juniper flavor and a hit of a couple extras. Hendrick's a little smoother, and along with the juniper, features cucumber. Hendrick's is definitely more enjoyable for my drinking. I haven't had tanq 10 in quite a while, so I'll let others elaborate.

Well, it depends on who's doing the tasting. For example, I did a gin tasting with my friends, and the slight favorite over Hendrick's, believe it or not, was just Seagram's. They liked it because it was really smooth and didn't have a whole lot of character. They weren't really gin people, so they were a little off-put by the Sapphire. You might toss that one in there just to compare with something cheap. Plymouth is reportedly worth tossing into the mix if you can find it (I can't, so I can't speak for or against it), and regular Tanqueray might be a solid mid-grade option for comparison, too.

For people new-ish to a particular spirit, I like an introductory tasting to not just compare premium examples, but span price ranges. That way, people can better see pick out not only their favorite, but the favorite relative to how much they're willing to spend.

the big difference in those for me is the headache that sapphire gives me. I prefer Plymouth over any of them

You should give Beefeater a try, too. A lot of people dismiss it because it's not the prestigious Bombay or Tanq, but I find that it's actually got a very nice taste to it.
