What do you think about school teachers?
From middle school to high school, I would estimate that a very large percent of the teachers hated their jobs, especially the male teachers.
ive always had mixed feelings about teachers. I could never get over the fact that they were dumb/naive enough to actually become a school teacher. Why would anyone want to spend the majority of their time with 12-18 year olds? Because of this I was always very skeptical about any advice they attempted to give me, because it was coming from some clown. People always say that people become teachers because they want to make difference in students lives and influence them, blah blah blah. I suppose that this is true for some of them, but I also believe that a large majority just fall into the position. Why didnt they become a professor? Probably because they werent smart enough or too lazy... I also suppose many of these teachers started off idealistic, but over the years all the bratty kids and government beuracracy slowly destroyed their spirit. And what abaout teachers who have to teach the samething to 4 classes of students everyday? In conclusion, Ive always been stuck between admiring/laughing at teachers for taking such a terrible job. **there are of course a few exceptions, the teachers who truely do love their job and make differences in students lives, teachers who work with retards and special needs kids, and teachers who dont even bother to teach and surf the internet all class** |

"those people that can, do. those that can't, teach"
not my words, but they sound useful in this case. |

Re: What do you think about school teachers?
When I was in middle/high school, I always suspected most of my male teachers were draft dodgers or burned out hippies. Now, 20 years later, I am fairly certain I was right.
There were a few who were excellent and loved their jobs. My high school science teacher was hard-core and I learned more from his high chemistry class than I did in 2 college level courses. |

Re: What do you think about school teachers?
I was very lucky, as whoever did the hiring at my high school was amazing. Every teacher I had in Grade 11 and 12 looked like they wanted to be there. Some were very enthusiastic, but all of them were willing to give extra help.
They really turned me on to my love for science, and I thank them for that. |

One that wasn't so good, and one that is great. She loved her job in both cases. |
