Shared River Card

We got a shared river card at 25c/50c. This is only the second time that it has happened whilst I have been playing. Technically not, as I had folded on sixth with a pair of twos. The river card was... [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] you know what is was... [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] and yes I would have... [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img].

How many shared river cards have you folks seen?

I've only seen it once, back in the day when I used to play $5-$10. I already had a full house at that point. I enjoyed the fact that everyone else was chasing to what was extremely unlikely to beat me.

the most recent time i was playing stud in a casino, instead of a community river, the dealer reshuffled the muck (including burn cards) and dealt the 6 or 7 players remaining a card from that stock -- first time i had ever been in a game that did that

Many years ago in a $1-3 game at Casino Arizona I saw a shared river card that gave someone quads and someone else a straight flush. I wasn't at the table,it happened at the table next to me. I remember it being quite the commotion as they were trying to determain if the jackpot qualified. I don't remember what they ever decided.

I'll guess I've seen at least ten community cards. The games were really good the first year that Canterbury was open.

My understanding is that they would do that ONLY if they had a clean burn pile AND they could cover everyone. Not enough cards with the burn to cover everyone, then you deal a common card.

Any stud players know if this is usually the way it is done?

Are you sure about this? I've seen them shuffle the burn cards many times. The only time I've seen the muck shuffled in was my first trip to Canterbury, the second day that they were open. They had a lot of new dealers (one told me that opening day was the first time that she had ever seen a real poker game). I was on a $2/4 stud table, and I think everyone except me saw the river. The dealer had not kept the burns separate from the muck, and the floor ruled that everyone should get his own river card. He then gave the dealer a short lecture after the hand about keeping the burns separate from the muck.

Yes, they will shuffle the burns if by doing so they will have enough cards for everyone. They will burn a card if they can, but if there are, say, seven cards for six players, they won't burn one, because in no case is the last card in the deck dealt.
