Simply put. You flop a good/great hand. A player who acts before you bets. You call instead of raising, planning to raise them on the turn when it is more $$$.
I've seen many players make this play. I noticed that they are usually but not always newer, less experienced players. I myself used to do it. What is the general thought on this play? Personally I don't like it and have stopped doing it. In the micro-limit no fold'em games there are normally a high number of players to see the flop. When facing a bet and a raise, many of the weaker drawing hands will fold. As a result of this I am being outdrawn by crap hands less. Example, flop a straight on a rainbow board, running suited cards and you lose to a 5-high flush. By raising the bet on the flop, you can force out these weak hands. Disclaimer - This is just what I have noticed in my games. Take my observations with a grain of salt. I am pretty sure I am a complete donk, but I am a winning player in the micros online and $3/6 live. I'm really interested in what the more experienced members think of this play. |
