Default Theory: the flop 3-bet (oop)

Hey,

Some time ago I talked some poker with one of my friends, whose game I respect very much. He is a regular winner at 10-20, 25-50 and 50-100. He said to me, "the flop 3-bet out of position is one of the most fishy moves".

The reason is that most often it scares every hand you beat away and leaves behind those that beat you. That's obviously not a situation one should strive for. When you have a set naturally you wanna get action from e.g. TPTKish hands.

The problem is that you also wanna protect your hand against draws. So if you DON'T make it, Villain is gonna be able to draw relatively cheaply.

Furthermore, you have to also do it with boarderline hands; not just huge draws or sets. And it will get really expensive the times you are trapped by e.g. a set.

I think you know what I mean by this; so what do you do to counter the problem?

if it's a fishy play with too strong a hand, then it's a good play with a weak hand
