Default getting from Memphis to Tunica, and back

I'm sketching out a solo Tunica trip for later this summer. I don't really feel like driving 8 hours (especially since it will run me over $200 in gas) and I live along the Amtrak City of New Orleans route. I could take the train to/from Memphis for $200 round trip, with convenient departure and arrival times on both legs.

If I took the train, do any of the Tunica hotels offer shuttles to/from Memphis? Has anyone ever done this? What about cabbing it (I know it's a 35-40 minute ride). I see no reason to rent a car strictly for the trip there and back.

Thanks in advance.

Call Horseshoe at (800) 303-7463 X-5543 and ask for Anita. She might be able to arrange it for you.

I think what this means is that they don't have regular shuttles and it has to be pre-arranged??

how does an 8-hour drive cost $200.

rental would almost certainly be better than a cab-ride (and probably better than a shuttle imo).
You can probably rent a car for as cheap as $25/day can't you?

$200 round-trip to Memphis via train would probably take longer (due to all the stops) but I don't ride trains so I'm not sure.

The cab ride from the Memphis airport to Tunica casinos is $85. Yes, I was retarded and did this - my friend was already there with a rental car and I was really tired and didn't feel like making the drive when I didn't know where I was going. But it's a rip - next time, I'd definitely rent a car.

Wow. $85 is awful even for such a longish ride.

I'm pretty sure I've seen shuttle-thingees around but I've never really paid attention. I know they have the shuttles from one casino-area to another...but from Memphis I'm not sure.

Didn't Fitzgeralds shuttle people in from Memphis at some point? I thought I saw an advertisment for this or something.

I would think that SOMEBODY in Memphis would want to be semi-responsible and try to avoid driving back up Hwy 61 while completely plastered.
But evidently not.

There have been some late-night drives I've made back up to Memphis during which I was pretty sure I was the only one who was NOT hammered.

Neither of the casino websites that I checked (Horseshoe, Sam's Town) mention a Memphis shuttle.

There appear to be some shuttles that run from the Memphis airport to Tunica. But I'll be arriving by train, and the shuttles are expensive anyway ($85 roundtrip).

Renting a car may be the way to go, even if it's strictly to get to the casino and then back.

As chipr suggested, I may call some places and see if something can be worked out.

If this is the Anita I know I am glad she is back at the Horseshoe booking rooms and such. She was very good at that job and not very good at running touranments and other things she did while away from the Horseshoe.

Rent a car (enterprise may deliver...) when you get here take 61 south or 55 south to 302 to 61.

There are shuttle services that will take you to the casino's cheaper than taxi, try the Bell South Yellowpages online or the Tunica Visitor Beurau (spelled badly...)

I was out there for WSOP & WPT events in January. After some extensive research, I did call Anita and was hooked up with a cab/shuttle. I can't remember exactly but think I paid around $100 (incl. tip) for r/t shuttle to & from Memphis. In hindsight I wished I rented a car for the following reasons:

1) car rental can be cheap from Memphis, as low as $25/day mentioned by earlier poster. Depending on length of your stay, might be cheaper to keep car for duration.

2) while some of the casinos have shuttles running between Grand and Horseshoe, they don't run frequently and stop after a certain time. They ran more during the time I was there and between waiting sometimes 20 minutes for a shuttle and one time getting on the wrong shuttle (per advice from casino personnel) did a loop around to hotels and ended up back where we started....it was NOT very convenient.

I'd recommend car rental for short stay, unless you are only going to play in one place or are staying for a longer time.
