Default The variance in Party 5/10 (6-max)

I'm only one month into this fun 6-handed play so I ask this question out of in experience and curiosity sake.

In the last 3 weeks and after 10,000 hands I'm beating the Party 5/10 game for just over 2BB/100 hands 2-tabling. I'm obv. not complaining but what has happened is in the first 2 weeks I was beating the game for roughly 6BB/100 hands. In the last week I've gone through 4 losing streaks of over 50BB (winning it back 3/4 times..working on the 4th lol..).

I guess my question is, is monthly swings this severe typical and should it be expected long-term this often at this level?

I dont know how to answer your question other than to say that these 6 max games are very high variance, and I suspect that not only must one possess the 2+2 poker knowledge to beat this game, they must also have the right kind of personality to beat this game becuz these games have the ability to tear the mentally weak apart. Recently in May, I went on a 340 big bet Down streak over a 2week period, only to recover all my losses and then some in a weeks time. The variance in this game is crazy.

After beating this game for about 1.5BB over maybe 60k hands, I haven't had a winning month since the end of February, with a couple 200BB+ downswings in there.

Good luck.

This is why I have a 2000 big bet bankroll for whatever limit I feel like playing so I can better handle horrible periods like this.

Approaching 200k hands 6max, and have a SD in the 5/10 of about $110 with about a 1.6 winrate (my 2/4 and 3/6 look much better).

I find myself up and down at least 100-150 BB at least once during the month. That's why a good roll is essential.

As far as swings, I guess it depends on your style. I like to push small edges knowing that long term, it'll pay an extra .75 or so BB/100. If you push those edges, you need to be sure you can deal with tilt. You'll hit highs you never dreamed of and also hit lows that you thought were reserved for other people.

I'm a 3.5bb/100 winner in that game, and I have been stuck 1500 or more 4 times(1000 hands or so per session) in a single month.

Ya, 6-max is definitely the ultimate tilt tester. 50-100 BB swings are standard for me. I started June with about a 75 BB upswing, followed by a 200+ downswing, and now I'm up about 100BB over the last 5K hands on a steady, but still swingy (just smaller), climb.

I'm assuming yhou mean $1500, not 1500BB. At the start of this slide I had 1000BB and did not play for a living, and I couldn't be more grateful for that, in hindsight.

340BB? good christ. You poor thing. Can't say I've suffered that bad yet luckily (knock on wood).

How silly is this..since making this post 15 minutes ago...I just won 60BB..losing streak balanced out again.

Unbelievably high variance in these games.
