taking a shot
Was taking a shot a 30/60 and getting [censored] cards. We are shorthanded and my opponent in this hand sucks but has drawn out of my quite a few times today so he is pretty confident right now I think. He is very loose on 3rd with drawing type hands and most pairs. My main question is about the 3 bet on 7th.

Re: taking a shot
I would either have raised third or fifth, probably fifth, rather than raising fourth.
I think the overwhelming majority of the time that people check-raise the river, they have a small set crushed, especially when you've put in a couple of raises already. |

Re: taking a shot
I prefer that you raise on 5th here. You could also raise on 3rd with no problem of exposing your very strong hand.
On river, it looks like you are lost. i would not reraise his raise on river. His check raise looks pretty powerful to me. You might still win it, but in general, in such a situation, you are lost. It's a shame when those rolled up hands lose. Instead of winning a bundle of money, you wind up losing an equal size bundle. |

Re: taking a shot
I would have likely planned to raise 5th instead of 4th. As played, I think you have a cake raise on 5th - no sense waiting really, doubt you'll lose him if he liked his hand that much on 4th and he may read you for diamonds trying to muscle him.
Reraising his checkraise on the end is pretty bad I think. His checkraise likely means a completed hand like a straight or a flush. And if he hit trips, they're bigger than yours (he coulda boated also). I don't think he'll reraise without a boat, but I think he probably has you beat so I don't want to cost myself and extra 60 personally. Jeff |

Results
Thanks for the responses. I ended up winning the hand.
It seems pretty universal I should have raised 5th and not raised 7th. I think that I was just a little out of my comfort zone at 30/60 and wasn't playing my A-game as a result after having looked at other simple hands from the session. For the most part the difference in play between the 10/20 and the 30/60 was very noticable as the players were much better and more agressive. Also 3-betting $180 into a pot is a very different feeling then 3-betting $30 or $60 into a pot, its hard to imagine playing higher then this. |

Re: Results
I think it's likely you played this hand very well -- and very fearlessly considering you were playing higher than usual. You basically read this guy as being pretty clueless and overconfident. The game was shorthanded, so players tend to get over aggressive when they've been putting a whupping on you. Given that read, I think you maximized your value against two pair here -- looks like he maybe had buried aces and rivered a second pair?

Re: Results
Beta, nice pot, although, I suspect perhaps a little bit of this hand was TILT? that is perhaps that raise on the end was more a f**k you frustration-raise? any thoughts on this? |

Re: Results
I think you are very right. Because I was playing so high I decided on 3rd to just go broke on this hand and hope for the best.

Re: Results
Speaking as someone who has moved up and down in limits quite a few times, no matter what level you play at, you just can't think about the money. It'll drive you nuts. You can only think of it as bets, or units, or chips. If you think of that $180 as a month's groceries or xx% of your paycheck or whatever, you'll freeze up. It's three bets, and it doesn't matter whether it $30/60 or $3000/6000 or $.30/.60. If you can't make this detachment, you might want to move up a little more gradually. There's a reason that casinos use chips rather than having players peel bills off a roll.
