Default Beginner book question on NLHE torney vs ring game

ok i've been advised to choose to specialise in tornament or ring game, and that the strategies confict so much that its best to stick to 1 type until i gain masses of experience.
i play mostly STT but also play a little MTT and ring game(all NLHE).

i've got a few NLHE books hohv1 hohv1 LGB as well as a few others not NLHE specific.

ok so i'm thinking of reading PL&NLP and IYP SS2, but was told these are ring game specific. could in anyway reading ring game specific books damage my tornament play?

Ring game books probably won't damage your tournament play as long as you keep in mind the differences. Early in a tournament, you'll be able to play much more like a ring game. But very soon the blinds will rise until you are forced to play a different kind of game - as outlined in HOH volume 2.

The Harrington books are the best currently for tournament play and the new Sklansky/Miller book, No Limit Hold'em Theory and Practice is very good for NL concepts in general.

Improve Your Poker and Pot Limit and No Limit Poker are both very good and should be read but really aren't primary texts in my opinion. I wouldn't bother with [i]Super/System 2[i] unless you want to read the non-NLHE sections, some of which are quite good.
