Putting in 0 bets postflop with AA
I haven't played much limit HE lately - is this an ok play?
40/80 Casino Arizona. 1 limper, I raise AA in LMP, Button calls, BB calls, limper calls. 4 players. The BB from what I can tell is a strong regular player in this game (given the respect he gets from others at the table, including the limper in this hand - I have never played in Arizona before). The limper and the button are probably in the 50/10/0.8 range. Flop is 7s5s5d. Check, Check, I check, button bets, BB raises, limper 3bets, I fold. |

no problem when coming back to you, but why did you check the flop?

I guess after it comes back to you for 3 bets you are likely behind if the guys are really passive, but why in the hell are you checking the flop??? |

Re: Putting in 0 bets postflop with AA
this is absolutely not a fold here... especially if we have the As.... this could easily be a position bet, followed by the bb c/r'ing w/ A7, followed by the limper who limped w/ 88, etc, etc, etc.... this is not a fold here... I'm capping and then re-evaluating depending on who gets away, and depending on the turn card and the action... a flopped boat is not playing this hand so fast... if someone has a 5, so be it, but I'm not willing to concede just yet... there are a million draws out there that we can be charging people for.... I would have bet the flop however, then our decision is even easier

Re: Putting in 0 bets postflop with AA
calling gives you a chance to find out information to see who caps, if you're planning on capping anyway. in a live game you usually don't shut anyone out by having them face 2. on the internet people find more folds.
is az 5-cap? that would definitely affect the decision. |

I agree with G_Dollaz - no way you can fold here, especially in light of your original (bad) check.

Re: Putting in 0 bets postflop with AA
I checked because something felt weird and I had an overwhelming impulse to check. Afterwards I was trying to figure out if there was any redeeming value to this play if it had occurred on the internet (i.e. no visual cues).
A well-respected 2+2er witnessed me make a similar play once - I said "well, if you're going to make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs." He responded "yeah, but you burned down the chicken coop!" |

Re: Putting in 0 bets postflop with AA
on this board you cannot fold. too many ways you are way ahead. on these types of boards, people get aggressive w/ almost any pair and since you checked they think you have AK and the limper could simply be trying to charge you. sure he can have a 5, but the chances he has a pair or a good draw + overs are higher and you have a very strong hand on this board. i also dont think you have to worry about the limper having a boat b/c he'd likely cold call having everyone drawing slim to dead.
checking the flop in the first place sucks. what was your urge to check based on? anything factual? folding this spot w/ AA on 557twotone board given the action so far is a big mistake imo. Barron |
