Poker on cruise ships?
Hey guys, I hope this is the right forum.
Anyway, I'm thinking of going on a cruise with the little lady later this summer. I've never been on a cruise. Many cruise ships have a casino on it, and I was wondering if they run poker tables for cash games or whatever? The thought of playing a cash game with 50 year old guys who don't know what they're doing is quite intriguing. So, is this common or not? I know the tables take up a lot of room so they may not have them. As I narrow my search down as to which tour we want to take I will be more likely call the cruise line and ask specific questions. But in the mean time I thought 2p2 would be able to help a bit. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Poker on cruise ships?
From what I hear, the games are great, ie the players are bad, but the house rake is really bad.

Re: Poker on cruise ships?
this is getting asked quite a bit lately.
do a search for more info. Somebody recently posted that several ships in the Carnival line are offering texas hold-em now. But the rake will have to be insanely high one would guess. Cardplayercruises.com has a lot of good cruises that may interest you. They are usually on Holland America lines (better than Carnival, but a bit more expensive). They are professionally staffed and good fun. Rake is pretty much the same as most live-casinos. Just a few minutes ago I received an e-mail from a competing company classicpokercruises.com Have never travelled with them but I'm sure they do a competent job as well. so if you are REALLY looking to get in some poker when you take your significant other on a cruise then I would recommend going with one of these companies. The little-lady will have just as enjoyable time regardless. My GF knows nothing about poker and loved both Party-Poker Million cruises we went on (both were cardplayercruises). My recommendation just from talking with other cruisers (and a couple posts on here from the past) is to not go with the cheapest company for your cruise. It's generally worth the extra bucks to go with a slightly better line. For example: We thought Holland America had some pretty good cuisine both times we went. Sometimes bordering on REALLY terrific. A couple other people who have gone on Carnival said the food and service could be really lousy at times (although it's also possible they were extra-picky OR their experience was an exception). |

Only line I've been on in which I saw poker played was Holland America.
It was 3/6 and BAD. |

I'll take a look. I really don't want to go on a "poker" cruise. I would rather think of it as a cruise where I can play poker (which it probably would be anyway but you know what I mean). And if it's a poker cruise, I'd assume the quality of opponents would be better. Thanks guys! Next time I suppose I'll do the 2 second search first so I don't get barked at! Re: Poker on cruise ships?
My dad went on Norwegan. He is just learning HE, a real beginner. Before the cruise he had played live twice in his life, and some play money on training software.
They offered 5-10 limit and he made I think 600 in just under 12 hours of play. 4 Dollar rake capped. Any competitent Limit or NL could easily pay for his cruise. |

Re: Poker on cruise ships?
When I went on Norwegian, they had a single table of 5/10 Limit that was consistently full. Nowegian cruises are sa-weeeeeet too.
