long time no play - 40 borgata hand

Great 40 game at the borg. Main villain here seems to play tight, maybe on the passive side.

3-ish limpers to me on the button (including villain who is in LMP and is the last of said limpers), I limp along with black 55. Blinds come along. A bunch of us see the following rainbow flop (I forget the exact suits):

9 4 2

Checked to me. I bet. One caller, rest fold to the villain, who raises. I 3-bet. Caller folds, villain calls. Heads-up to the turn:

9 4 2 3

Villain bets. I raise. Villain calls.

River:

9 4 2 3 5

Villain checks. I check.

I'm most concerned about my turn raise. Not sure if I had the right idea at the wrong time, or vice versa. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

What do you give villain that you fold getting 10:1??

Wow, no offense but I think you botched this pretty bad. Villain is tight passive, yet you see him checkraising with nothing on this dry board when he has no indication based on the preflop play anyone will bet? You think he plays a 4 like this? Why not just bet that out? I could see him playing a set like this or a good nine possibly if he sees you as someone aggro who will bet - on Party, I like your play. Not so much at Borg. Anyway...the turn comes and gives you outs. I don't really like the raise bc I don't think he folds and I worry he has a strong hand and might reraise.

Ok, you're not worried. He calls, showing you need to improve. On the end, you improve and he checks, then you misse a gimme bet. You can fold to a checkraise (which pretty much isn't coming very often) yet he calls with many worse hands. Essence of value now that you've sucked out so well. But you miss the bet?

fold to flop check-raise against a very passive player.

call turn, your behind and a raise achieves nothing.

bet river -- easy value bet IMHO, especially since he didn't bet into you on the river.

Why is it that every time I post here I feel like the worst hold'em player ever, yet every time I'm at the tables I feel like an easy favorite.

I wouldn't fold that flop either but raising that turn is pretty bad. The dude is passive and you clearly behind. Funny that you had enough balls to threaten the blind man with imaginary gun on the turn but lost it all on the river. Learn the fine art of sucking out and bet the river.

Yeah, I'm an infrequent/recreational player, so even though I've been beating (crushing) live mid-limit games for 6+ years now, the total number of hands I've played is probably only in the 50k-100k neighborhood. Bah.
