Default unwanted download/upload

I tried several days ago to download a video poker game from one of the casinos - nothing seemed to happen, except that some sort of download/upload started, which now continues several days later every time I log into this casino. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the software with nothing changed; I log on, reach the lobby, and suddenly approx 1,200,000 bytes per second are being downloaded, with about 2500 bps being uploaded, even while I am doing nothing. Anyone have any idea how to stop this, other than to play a different casino (the same thing now happens when I log into two of this casino's sister sites)?

The one thought I had, having uninstalled all these casinos and removed their associated files, is that when I reinstall the casino it remembers my username, which suggests that I have failed to remove all the casino's files during uninstall - could whatever have caused this download be lurking somewhere along with this information? If so, how do I find it?

Default Re: unwanted download/upload

Without knowing more specifics about your situation, I would first try three things:

1. Download Spybot S&D . It will direct you through a series of steps after install to get you updated and scanned. It checks for the types of programs this casino seems to be using.

2. Download Ad-aware . This scans more for advertisements and cookies, but it may catch the file that is storing your logon info.

3. Use some type of software firewall. It doesn't matter whether you purchase one at the store or download a free one, but this will allow you to regulate what programs on your computer are allowed to have access to the internet. Whenever a program the firewall does not recognize attempts to use the internet, you will be prompted with a "Is this OK?" message asking you for permission. If the residual traces of the casino's software are "phoning home" for any reason, a good software firewall will put up a red flag and point you in the right direction as to where this program is located on your computer. I use and recommend the free ZoneAlarm.

Hopefully, the combination of these products (all free) will solve your problem. Feel free to PM me if you have any additional quesitons.
