Default Calling a 40XBig Blind bet preflop

Home game where about 2/3s of the players aren't aware of many poker concepts (not only limping with any A, but many times any single face card, gap concept, checking down all in, etc.). It's the very first round and blinds are 100/100. Chip stacks are pretty large due to the structure (not important). I'm in SB with about 22,000 with AQo. Button (similar chip stack) is very loose and over values pocket pairs (often reraising with low pocket pairs and sometimes will be the third in a hand to reraise with pp).

Everyone folds to button who bets 4000. I didn't hesitate for a second to fold. It made no sense to me to risk that many chips at that stage of the tourney on that hand. I keep thinking about what hands I would have called with though. AA is an obvious call, but I'm thinking I would still fold AKs and down. I'm debating on if KK would be a call though. Is this really being too tight, again considering that it was the first round of the game? Another consideration is that he is in my group of players that will put in a huge bet preflop, and often show a big hand after and complain of getting no action.

I would call with KK. If there are no aces on the flop, open push.
With AK, I think I would call here too (not thrilled about it though). If I hit the flop, open push.
With AQ, a fold is easy.

I'd fold AK - too much to risk when there is a very good chance you are up against a decent sized pair and will be out of position on the flop.

I'd call with KK, but not sure about QQ. It sounds like you'd have plenty of great opportunities later on considering the standard of play so I would be inclined to fold.

AQ I would also certainly fold.

Sounds like a great game!

I agree so far with the above posts with one exception: I'd consider calling with AKs but not AKo. A lot of good things can happen when AKs hits. (Top pair/top kicker, nut straight possibilities, nut flush possibilities and the every elusive straight flush.)

Although calling almost 25% of your stack is not easy it is worth considering.

AQ, suited or unsuited, is not playable in this situation.

Because I'm putting him on AA or KK, not QQ or lower. For many of the players in this game, it's not uncommon to push with a huge hand rather then try to sweeten the pot. This guy in particular, pocket pairs are overvalued, and he's doens't typically bet big connectors aggresively. Additionally, if I call with kings and don't make I don't make a set I'll be folding to a bet rather then put the rest of the tourney on line.

btw, FYP?

If it wasn't for 2/3 of the field being weak, I would say:

Call/move in AA-JJ, think about TT and 99 but probably fold and wait. AK, reluctant call, fold everything else.

However, given the weak field, let me see flops cheaply instead.

I'm not calling anything there. Anything worth playing is worth pushing back. AA, KK, AKs-maybe. That's just a silly bet to make at those blind levels by the button, so I probably just laugh and fold.
