Default Argosy Riverside (Kansas City) poker room now open

Over the past two days I've pieced together a bit of information on Argosy's new poker room. Here is what I have heard:

The room opened on Wednesday and had four tables running: 3/6, 4/8, 4/8 with a kill, and 5/10. On Thursday there were two limit games going, and two NL games going. Not sure what stakes the limit games were, but I'm almost certain both NL tables were 2/5. I did not hear anything about the buy-in for these tables. However, I heard that chopping and live straddles are both permitted (neither are allowed at Harrah's).

One player also said that they cannot use more than four tables atm because they have not yet set up cameras to monitor the other tables..? Seems kinda weird if it's true.

I played on both Wed and Thur night. The opening night had four limit tables running (with full kill) as your report indicated.

Thursday night had one NL game going. I believe it was 1/3. It ran for about 4 hours with a full table. Then faded during the late hours of the night.

Since I play limit only, I can only comment on the 4/8 full kill game. Wed was much better than Thurs. Most of the regular Isle fish appeared at the table.

Thursday the game was much tougher and was short handed most of the evening. Some of the players on Wed and Thurs were regulars at 15/30 at Ameristar, since I have never played that game before, I am not sure. But they were all friends and talked about the game. IHMO none of the three were outstanding players, just tight and nitty.

I ran about my average for the 15 hours I played on Wed and Thurs.

Overall the room is very good. It is located at the back corner of the casino. Formely it was the high limit slot area. The poker room has a bathroom and cashier cage.

Argosy bought all new tables and chairs for the room. The only draw back is that the chairs do not have rollers. I believe there are 8 tables. And the chips are all brand new.

I can confirm that they allow a live straddle and chopping the blinds. Also the brush reduced the rake to 2+1 when we were five handed. I will continue to play here from now on.

Hope this helps.

There are 7 tables.

Several tables were going today with 3/6 and 4/8 limit. Unsure about the kills on the games. At 3:30 a 2/5 NL game started. $100-$300 buy-in. At one point it was mentioned that you could buy in for 75% of the deepest stack at the table, although this had not been mentioned to me initially (perhaps simply because it wasn't relevent to a new game). When I left, six of the tables were in use. I don't know what games were being played on them all.

The white chips are new. The reds are not.

Some of the chairs are taller than the others and are pretty much impossible to sit in. Rather than figuring out if there was some way to fix the chair, I just got a new one.

A couple dealers were clearly inexperienced/new to poker, but most were competent.

The staff had trouble explaining why there was a betting line on the table. It may or may not serve some official purpose. There were no disputes about it while I was there.

There was no TV display for waiting lists, so I assume the lists are done by hand. You also get clocked in and out by hand, and at the end of the day your stuff will be manually entered into their database... you receive 75 cents in comps per hour.
