Re: Organizing a home game. Building a ring...
I'd never "advertise" a poker game with a flyer. Word of mouth seems to work just fine where I live.
I would never pay a rake at a home game. I don't even like the games where everyone pitches in $5 for drinks and pizza...we usually just do BYOB and if a few folks want to order pizza they are on their own with that. Then again, I mainly play within a loose knit poker group/club of friends and acquaintances (no real strangers). |

If your max is 9 people, do you really need a flyer. Why not just ask your buddies, work colleagues, etc?

Then there's family (another table), and non-work friends. I'm ready for a medium sized tourney and I know every one of them personally. |

That's the thing, I don't have any buddies or collegues that play Texas Hold'em. Those in my family (and some friends) that do play hold'em are too close to me for me to take their money. In fact we don't gamble at all. They are not in as we call it the "world of poker". [/ QUOTE ] If you're looking for players, try the following sites: www.homepokergames.com www.findpokerpal.com Once you have players, use my site, www.homepokerclub.net, to schedule and record your tourney results. Also, if you're in Vancouver, I'm looking to start a low stakes tourney with serious players. steve My home league: North Shore Low Rollers |

I think a flyer posted in the area would bring cops in.

Re: Organizing a home game. Building a ring...
Do you really think a flyer is needed?? I agree with earlier posts. You should be able to get nine players (and hey, sometimes you need to just play with 6 or 7 and be happy to play) from people you know.
I would be very uncomfortable playing with people that at the minimum someone I knew at the game knew (hope that sounded right). You should try to find a few games around town, friends of friends or people at work who have their own "ring" and network with them. I've got a group of regulars that I play with but then one of those regulars had me play with a separate group of his friends. It was only a matter of time before I was able to get some from each group to play together. It took time, but there's just too many people out there to have to invite people you don't know. Even at low stakes, it's just too dangerous. [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] |

....also, we can't be sure of how legal your game is without knowing your state. I seriously doubt the cops are going to bother with a low stakes home game. Besides, they are too busy with their own home games. Good Luck! [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
