Default ballys, flamingo, or harrahs tourney...

i know that the caesars noon is probably the best bang for the buck and i will be playing in that while i'm out there but the wife wants to play in one also for around 50 bucks and these three seem to be in her range and close to our hotel (flamingo)...so which of these 3 tournies would you recommend, or are they all just crap shoots with quickly rising blinds??? would it just be better for us to spend the extra money and both play in the caesars? also any info on the flamingo poker room would be appreciated...i kind of looked through allvegaspoker.com but was trying to get a feel what you guys think...thanks

Flamingo SnG I've played a few times...after 30 minutes its normally a crap shoot, but generally horrible players. Ring games there were 2/4, 4/8 occasionally, 1-2 NL. NL very juicy. Also see the oldest drink waitress ever there..(free attraction}.
I really hate the Flamingo since the joint is a serious dump, but I'm sure it has the softest players in Vegas.

Stayed at the Flamingo in April, and it is not a dump. The poker room is smaller but soft. There was always a game and never a wait, the dealers were decent and the drink service fast. Played in the daily tourney once and the players were horrible. The blinds do get rough after a half hour but not a bad deal for $50. My favorite dealer in Vegas was at the Flamingo (Tin I think was his name, asian obviously) he was insanely fast and didnt think twice about making fun of the donks to their face.

you moron - LOL -

skip Sahara - they take extra juice -

the Aladdin tourneys kick ass - go check those out - that's where I like to go for most of my small tourneys.

Dunno, man. From what I've seen, Saraha's dailies are arguably the most popular in town.

Ignore whiskey. Sahara is a good choice and reachable via monorail. $42 with a single $20 rebuy. 11am, 7pm, 11pm. 7pm usually has >100 players. 11am will be more like 5 tables. 11pm is in between in size.

On the other hand, if you want to stay center-strip, Alladin was ok when I last played it like 6mo ago (pre Caesars--the coming of Caesars noon tourneys has completely eliminated any desire I have to play any other small afternoon tourneys).

All of the $50ish tourneys are crapshoots with high vig. I think Sahara's vig is no worse than most, though I haven't done a room-by-room comparison. That'd be useful if anyone has done it. And Sahara is less crap shooty than many.

As for whether your wife should play at Caesars... I'm gathering that you or she thinks she isn't very good. In which case, the crapshoot tourneys will be better for her if getting into the money is the goal. There's a lot more luck involved in moneying in a crapshoot 15 or 20-minute round tourney than in Caesars. On the other hand, if she can hold her own, she'll probably get a lot more playtime even if she doesn't money from Caesars. The crapshoot tourneys basically turn into all-in festivals after about 60 minutes. Caesars is still in the middle of the 2nd level after 60 minutes. The $$/hr for the entertainment could well be better at Caesars.

I didn't realize they had such classy dealers at the Flamingo.

To answer my own question, allvegaspoker has this.

Aladdin 1pm tourneys are $43 + $17overhead. No rebuy, no addon. For a horrible 28% overhead.

Sahara is $33 + $9overhead with a single $20 rebuy. If you take the rebuy (like >90% of people do), it's a very bareable 15% overhead.

NO clue what whiskey is thinking claiming the Sahara vig is huge. Compared to his claimed preference of Aladdin, it's tiny.
