I think day 1A was my least requested day, but I'm not really worried about it. On the bright side, if i can make it through day 1 this year, i'll have the maximum amount of rest.
To get this email, i had PokerStars contact the Rio directly, but you can probably send an email to Robert Daily directly using his email below if you have not heard about your day assignment. gc Congratulations! The World Series of Poker is the most prestigious Poker event in the World. This is a receipt for your payment of the Tournament Entry Fee of $10,000 which reserves you a seat in WSOP Event #39. Your first day of play is Day 1A, Friday, July 28, 2006 at 12 noon. Upon your arrival at The RIO, to finalize your Registration and to receive your table and seat assignment, please visit our Registration Center, located in the WSOP Tournament Area. You must complete your Tournament Registration at least one hour prior to your event. Please be prepared to provide proof of identity via a Drivers License, Passport or Military I.D. This year’s WSOP will no doubt be the largest and the most exciting gaming event in history. Harrahs continues to lead the industry in creating an innovative gaming experience for valued guests. Harrahs and the Tournament Staff sincerely wish you “GOOD LUCK” and we look forward to seeing you at the Final Table. If this was your least requested I would think you could contact them and ask why this was your assignment.
Maybe they'll realize it's a mistake or something and change it for you. Then again, you said you weren't worried about it. But one wonders why they even bother having you request your preference in the first place if they are just going to ignore it. |

I was told by a World Series of Poker staffer at the Rio that 90% of the players are choosing 1D, so Black Aces may be right and they may be filling 1A up because fewer players have chosen it. I asked for and got 1A.

Ugh...I certainly hope I don't end up with 1A. Was my Lowest ranked preference too, I believe.
Edit -- just checked my email and ended up with 1B. Whew. |

I played 1A last year and didn't think it was that big a deal.
Lots seem to think that if you get a later day assignment then you can feel it out and get used to it on the earlier days. And that you'll have an idea for how many chips you should aim for at the end of day 1 and how many players get eliminated. But all your opponents get this advantage too. If you are a thinking player then playing against a bunch of people who are less comfortable with the situation because it's the very first day seems to be advantageous to me. Then again, lots of online-qualifiers might be requesting day 1d and 1c. |

I requested 1D as my top choice this year, and received 1D (found out from Harrah's last week). I played on 1A last year, and I didn't feel it was a disadvantage. I busted on Day 1 anyway, but I don't think my starting day had any effect.

The guy at the Rio said he thinks that most people are requesting 1D because (1) they won't have to pay for the extra hotel stay if they are buying in themselves or qualify through a site that doesn't pay for the hotel, and (2) they won't have to take an extra vacation day or two like they would if they played 1A or 1B. Who knows?
I chose 1A because Stars is paying for my hotel room beginning on July 27, and I like the idea of having the extra days of rest if I make it through the first day. If I don't make it through the first day, then I have a nice weeklong vacation in Vegas courtesy of Stars, which pays for 9 nights at the hotel even if you bust out the first day. I suspect that they are trying to allocate an approximately equal number of players to each day as people register, rather than filling up 1D, then 1C, etc. That way, they won't have to change anyone's starting date to even out the days if they end up with less than 8,000 players. But like I said, who knows? |

Any Full Tilt qualifiers get their starting day yet?
They asked what day I wanted a while ago Then about a week ago they asked for my date of birth to "facilitate the registration process." But nothing since then. |
