Default I hate re-installing XP, drivers and software

I usually make a fresh install of XP every now and then to keep everything nice and tidy and malware-free. Installing XP is quick enough, but when you add SP2, all the drivers, and the basic software that I use, we're talking hours and hours.

Is there any way to make this tedious task easier? Can I make some sort of image of a fresh installed system (including all drivers and the essential software) and burn it on DVD? It would be great if I just had to pop in a disc, copy the content on to the harddrive and be ready to go.

Any suggestion on how to make the reinstall process easier would be appreciated.

What you want to do is known as slipstreaming. Google "slipstreaming xp" for lots more info and utilities.

Unattended Windows 2000/XP Installations

Yes and no... slipstreaming will make a disk with his new SP and possibly with fancy drivers, but won't be as easy as a ghost image.

OP:
Get your system exactly as you like it after a fresh install. Get all your drivers, utilities, basic programs like firefox and winzip and whatever installed.

Use Norton Ghost to make an image of the boot partition. In the future, you can just pop in your image disk, wipe your boot partition and reimage it and you'll be at the exact same state on that partition as you were when you created the image.

That is why it's your friend... it's incredible
