Automatic shufflers vs Hand shuffling
I'm in Vegas and I tend to gravitate toward the card rooms with automatic shufflers because I have it in my head that you get in more hands per hour that way. But I was recently at Paris and there is a sick dealer there. One of the best I've ever seen. He could hand shuffle in less than 6 seconds flat. And the thought occurred to me that even with an average dealer you probably aren't gaining that much time with the auto shuffler. Considering the how long it takes to open the machine, load the old deck and remove the new one the time gained is probably negligible. Or am I wrong?
Either way I've obviously spent way too much time thinking about this. |

Re: Automatic shufflers vs Hand shuffling
Casinos don't look at how many hands in x # of minutes they get out. They look at the big picture. IE: 10 tables, 6 running on average for 16 hours/day over 6 months. Over the long run, the shufflers make a big difference, but in the short term (couple hours) you wont notice a thing.

Re: Automatic shufflers vs Hand shuffling
When I played recently at the HoB/Swbt in AC, I thought the game proceeded noticeably more quickly b/c of the auto shufflers. It wasn't huge, but it was there. Still moved slower than online, but what are you going to do.

Re: Automatic shufflers vs Hand shuffling
Automatic shufflers are usually hooked to a master computer which has many programs for distributing starting cards. I wont play in a cardroom with automatic shufflers.

do you have any proof to back up that ridiculous-sounding claim?

Re: Automatic shufflers vs Hand shuffling
pretty skeptical that a wash, riffle, riffle, strip, riffle could be 6 seconds. take the wash out and sure.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure that there are too many rooms left that require a wash after each hand. I am one of the minority that broke in with an auto shuffler, and went to a job that shuffles by hand. I can HONESTLY say that the amount of time in between an auto shuffle and a hand shuffle(with me, anyways)is no more than 3-5 seconds. I like the idea of hand shuffling. There is a sense that you had a bit more involvement in a big hand/bad beat, etc...and sometimes you will receive more than the standard toke... |

Re: Automatic shufflers vs Hand shuffling
Where the biggest difference comes in is with older dealers who's hands arent' waht they used to be. I know dealers that can still fly hand shuffling but after a down or two they are done, but with a machine they can deal fast for an entire shift.

His aces and kings get cracked more often by hands that shouldn't be winning. Its how they keep the bad players coming back for more. |
