Default playing JJ-KK for set value

Is it worth it to play JJ-KK for set value 6-HANDED in o8? I was just wondering if anyone had a significant sample size. Also, are people limping/raising/folding these hands to you in what positions? Assuming no real reads and 5/10 o8, thanks

I don't play 6 handed and I don't play 5/10, but I guess if a King is suited, it's worth calling pre-flop just one bet.

When you're talking 6-handed, set value, no, but the fact it's a big pair can be just as important. I personally can't stand playing JJ or QQ. I don't mind KK as much, especially with some flush draw and SOME sort of low draw. KK34, KK23, KK45, these hands can play very well against one opponent. For that reason, if I'm going to play it, I'm raising the pot (in position, of course).

For what it's worth, I think KK is a [censored] hand in O8. If an A comes, your folding, if a flush comes you wonder where you stand, and if its an overpair, you're still left in the same dilemna as you are with AA, but with the added disadvantage that some one's hole cards can beat you too.

That said, I routinely play KK-JJ hands (actually way more when I can).

No-you're going to be folding way too many flops and you won't be able to get nearly as much value than you can in Holdem.

But playing good high hands strongly could be good.

I actually prefer playing lower pairs like 55, 66, 77, 88... due to the fact that when you hit your set, you usually have all kinds of draws that are chasing you down. Granted, the nature of O8 is that middle set gets sucked out on a lot, but I rather work with a hand that's going to get me paid off VS. hitting a set of J's or K's... what hand is going to pay you off? On a J or K high board short handed... you usually have the HIGH fairly cripled.

Why would you favor a hand that is more likely to be playing for half than others? In a very general sense (excluding position, stack size, reads, etc.), that low/middle pair needs to have some very friendly side cards in order to rise to the level of playability.

AA is prolly the only hand you should play 6-handed for it's "pure" value...

...other hands need a wee bit more strength...

...JJ-KK might be ok with just 2 wheel cards for a raise...

...dunno, it depends :-)

Guys,

This is what you (rightfully) get when playing KK-rag-rag in PLO8:
