Just got back from X3: The Last Stand...
Meh.
It is better than I expected from Ratner, but incredibly disappointing compared to the first two. This film has all the subtlety of a hammer to the face. It is essentially any random superhero movie with glossy effects and action, attempting to ride on the lingering threads of X1 and X2. These are not the characters we remember, but they aren't quite empty shells either. In essence? Ratner manages to screw things up less than I expected (but I expected him to screw things up completely). The film's few successes are undercut by it's failures. The dialogue sucks HARD, and is a constant reminder that THIS MOVIE IS NOT VERY GOOD. The flick is analogous to X-Men: The Ride -- enough familiarities to make viewers ancticipate their beloved series, and then a bunch of glossy action to cover up the fact that it's not the real deal. All that said, I'd still give it 2 out of 4 stars. It's worth watching, if you're an X-men fan capable of lowering your expectations low enough. And they do manage to do a few things very well. |

Tell us about the Chinaman fellow with the spikes coming out of his head. Did he wok up some dumplings when Gandalf pulled out his magic penis?

That movie sucked. Plain and simple.

I enjoyed it. It was about what I expected.
Also, what the hell, Juggernaut is not a mutant. Pretty lame. |

I don't remember the first two movies very well, but I definitely remember that they were lots better than this trainwreck.

As Red Lion says, Ultimate Juggernaut's a mutant, which this is based off of. Was there any reference to his relation with Xavier? probably not

Re: Just got back from X3: The Last Stand...
*potential spoiler*
Alright, I just got back as well. I'm conflicted. I didn't feel like there was any build up of characters or anything, so as soon as anyone died, you didn't really empathise with them. I think the trailer was edited well and was really slick, too bad they couldn't do that in the actual movie itself *end of potential spoiler* Watch it for the action, not for it's plot. It ain't cannon, and doesn't even attempt to pretend it's cannon. I can't tell whether it's the director's fault, or the writers faults. Also, the trailer promised a lot, but the movie delivered not a whole lot of it. Really bait and switch IMO. DON'T FORGET...., there's something after the credits. I guess it's there for potential sequels. |
