Default TPTK lost

Villain is 40/26, and pretty passive postflop. I called turn because I felt he might be feeling out a weak K (QK) with the smallish bet size. I think river is an easy fold... my real question is the turn.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

UTG ($74)
MP ($641.15)
CO ($805.90)
Hero ($879)
SB ($252)
BB ($275.10)

Preflop: Hero is Button with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $2.
1 fold, MP raises to $12, 1 fold, Hero calls $12, SB (poster) calls $10, 1 fold.

Flop: ($40) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, MP checks, Hero bets $35, SB calls $35, MP folds.

Turn: ($110) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets $45, Hero calls $45.

River: ($200) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
villain pushes, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $200

What was your read on MP to make you smooth call with AK preflop? Postflop looks fine.

A lot. Re-raising AK in position (and sometimes OOP) has become almost standard for me. It folds out other AK, sometimes folds out TT-QQ on lower type flops, and wins a lot of pots when you both miss.

There is definitely a place for smooth calling AK in position. It mostly depends on the opponent as usual. It is very helpful when trying to take away ragged flops and it puts you in control which is generally a good thing. Mixing it up is always the best option, but I tend to reraise at least 80%. I'm usually only smooth calling in position and when I've got a bad image (selective against opponent).

Play on the hand looks fine to me. You have to keep the lead on the turn to find out where you're at.

Hm, with your stacks, I probably raise the turn to 175 and fold to any further aggression.
