Tournament Evaluator
Is there a formula for caluclating the value of a tournament? I have a few different tournaments to choose from and I'd like to spend my dollars and effort in the best of the selections. Also, how imporatant is an "overlay" in the equation?

Re: Tournament Evaluator
E=entrants
BI =buy in EF = entry fee RO= real overlay S = skill on a percentage scale where if you're the best player in the world, 1.0, if you don't know the hand rankings but you think you do (ie think straight beats flush) you're .01)- this number should be set relative to the other players in the tournament v=varriance T=structure (((E*BI) -EF) +RO ) * (0.S * T *V)= value |

Re: Tournament Evaluator
Thanks, but I'm a bit math-impaired. How do you assign a value for "T=structure"?
Is there a good article or book on tournament selection criteria? I'm looking for a way to quickly campare several live tourneys of different sizes and prize structures against one another. No one has a handy online tool for this? |

I don't think there is a value for T = structure.

Re: Tournament Evaluator
It wasn't a serious answer. It was a way to show that there is no way to write a formula. The best tournaments are those that are within your bankroll, that are in games you know how to play, that have a structure that suits you playing ability, that have a true overlay (as opposed to a fake "guarantee" where the prize is almost always higher than the guarantee).

Re: Tournament Evaluator
VERY ROUGHLY speaking - if you have 2 tourneys you can choose from with all other things being same but one with overlay - choose the one with overlay. But most importantly try to choose tourneys where you have a decent field advantage (i.e. you're as good or better than most people in that tournament).
