Default Do you think the internet will surpass Jesus?

Will the internet ever have a bigger impact on the world than jesus? I think so, but are the two even comparable?

It already has had a bigger impact, I'd say. Or at least a better one.

Do you find that at all odd? I mean I can't really think of anything else that is literally bigger than jesus.

I did a search for the word "Jesus" on Google images with safesearch turned off. This is the 5th picture that comes up... NSFW.

Hmmm lets see, 2000 years worth of cultural change, wars, religion, rulers, art, literature, music, tolerance, repression, architecture and dissent versus ten years of people loking at dirty pictures and e-mail, and the near certainty that the internet as we know it won't exist in a generation.

I think I know where I'm going to stand on this on.

Cliff notes

Jesus > Internet > Beatles.

Jesus/Christianity had a huge impact on ideals and ideas - well, kind of. More like ideals and ideas were slightly altered to more resemble those espoused in Christian texts. More significantly, Jesus plays a part in the lives of many, many people. The Internet has had a very different impact, one that has changed the global infrastructure at its core. It has affected ideals, economics, politics, recreation, communication, etc etc. There are something like 2 billion people in this world who are considered Christians. How many people have Internet access or are directly affected by it? Far more.
