Default Movies of which you were inexplicably unaware, and then really liked

Maybe this only happens to me, but sometimes there seem to be really mainstream movies, you know widely released, big advertising budget, everyone else knows about, etc. , that I am just totally unaware of.

For example, I had never heard of True Romance until about 5 years ago (it came out in 1993), but now I really enjoy the movie.

Does this happen to anyone else? And if so, what movies have you had this experience with?

I had never heard of True Romance until last night. Seriously. And today it's been all over the 'best stoner' thread and now this one. Sick coincidences.

Me too. Didn't see a commercial for it or anything. Then, everyone is talking about this 'Matrix' movie and how it changed their friggin' lives. It was very good, but yeah, it came out of nowhere.

Also hadn't even heard about 'The Big Lebowski' until about a year after it was out on video ... loved it.

Ok, this is exactly what I thought would happen, I start the thread with something that completely makes sense to me, i.e. it was easy not to know about True Romance, and then people name huge, blockbuster movies that me and everyone else I knew saw in the theater.

This is good.

I had never heard of Fight Club until it had been out for a few weeks and one of my friends was like "OMG, you have to see this movie" and of course it was awesome.

The Big Lebowski, Snatch, and Requiem for a Dream, never heard of them until I started hanging out with some people and they loved all 3 so of course I had to watch and I love all 3

I have a good memory when it comes to crap like movie previews, so I never really have a movie blindside me. However, True Romance kind of fits the bill for me - the thing is that I was 8 when it came out, so I'm not sure it counts. Still, I only heard about it last summer, when my girlfriend said it was great and bought it for me, and I was blown away. Now all of my guy friends love it, too.
