Do I owe my roommate an apology?
I'm sort of drunk, but I need OOT to tell me if I'm right or wrong about this. I think the solution to the problem lies in simple arithmetic, but my roommate seems to think otherwise. I'm the type of guy who will apologize when I'm wrong, but I think I'm gonna stand my ground on this...
I gave 6 people a ride to the club tonight. (3 guys, 3 girls) 3 of the passengers will be crashing at my apartment, the other 3 will go to a different apartment. The sober driver will be going to the other apartment, which means I will be driving 3 people approximatly 3 miles to my apartment in little to no traffic. Take a look at the map. 3 passengers will get off at X1, and the rest of us get off at X2. About 3 minutes after passing the gas station, my roommate says "get a cigar". There isn't another gas station on the way home, so my roommate is SOL. My roommate tells me to take her home immediately. This means I would have to go to X2, then to X1, then back to X2. My original plan was just to drop off people at X1, then go home to X2 (my house) and go to bed. The distance between X1 and X2 is approximately 3 miles. I thought I might be missing something since I'm drunk, so I said [censored] it, lets take her home, under the condition that when my car gets home, it's not leaving again for the night. We came home (all 6 of us) and I took the keys, and told everyone that they would have to find there own ways home. My roommate got mad at me and ended up having to take the 3 passengers back to X1. I feel no remorse and feel that my roommate is an idiot who can't understand basic logic problems. |

Re: Do I owe my roommate an apology?
My roommate just threw a fit about this because she has to work at 5:30am central time, but me taking her home first only gives her 10 more minutes of sleep time, yet causes me to drive twice as far.
Im drunk, I might not understand. |

Let me be the first to say, "Don't drive drunk!"

Re: Do I owe my roommate an apology?
You should've continued with plan A, as played, NH.
Be a parent to your roommate. Tell her she shouldn't have been out drinking on a worknight. By rubbing her face in this and making her take her/your collective friends home, you reinforce that partying on a worknight is bad. |

Re: Do I owe my roommate an apology?
You should crash your car into a minivan full of kids, killing killing the mom and 2 kids while leaving the last child paralyzed from the neck down. That's what drunk drivers do.

Re: Do I owe my roommate an apology?
you should've dropped the other people off first and then driven home. It's unreasonable of your roommate to want to be dropped off first, but I don't think you should have gone to your place and left your other friends stranded.
i don't think OP actually drove drunk--he just intended to, but didn't get a chance once he got home. EDIT: I think the correct solution would've been for your sober friend to drop you off and then drive himself home and let you pick your car up tomorrow. |
