etiquette on asking players to reload?
What is the etiquette on this?
Do you guys ever request that another player reload before continuing when they get short? My first thought is that EV doesn't really matter either way, but I've heard of people doing this at the highest levels and was wondering your thoughts on this. ps: pretty sure I have no idea how to spell etiquette |

Re: etiquette on asking players to reload?
I'm not an expert on the subject, but I'd think asking them, "Hey, you want to reload?" is perfectly ethical. Also, that phrasing seems pretty amicable, rather than just trying to take more of their money.

Re: etiquette on asking players to reload?
well I'm actually rethinking my EV statement
the problem is that the lower your opponents stack becomes the lower your edge gets. I think this is proven by the extreme of your opponent having enough for 1-2 big blinds, as long as he is playing optimaly (ie playing every hand - and most realize this and play accordingly) you have no edge. So if I'm in a situation where I have 50 bets and my opponent has 1-5, why would I continue to play when: - there are only a couple of bets for me to win, but many for him to win - I have very little edge - in fact negative edge when rake is considered and yes last night I got abused for 25bbs after my opponent was all in at one point. I think I risked 25 bets for 1 in a situation where I had little edge. obviously I was only risking even money at any given time, but this makes sense right? So I guess my question was two parts: - do you guys stop when up against a short stack? |

Re: etiquette on asking players to reload?
Yup. It's poker, not a tea party. If your advatage is diminished becaause the player has less than a short buy-in. You are not obligated to finish him. Make him reload. Sit out and ask him to reload. If he says no or doesn't reload. Leave on a HU table. Otherwise you can wait him out on a 6max or FR table.

Re: etiquette on asking players to reload?
ask them to reload in nicer terms. such as "you want to continue playing?", or "gg, wanna play more?".. "reload", or "reload or I'm leaving " is far too harsh.

Re: etiquette on asking players to reload?
Hmm, I'm not sure I agree at all with you guys.
Often bad players buy in really short (say 5 bb) and play until they bust. This is great news for us, even if our edge is 0 when they have 2bb. Essentially, either he busts his 2bb, or I bust my bankroll. Naturally, he's going to bust first 100% of the time. He doesn't have enough money to handle the swings, so he'll eventually give you all his money. Don't you agree? |

I've never seen "reload" used as anything else but an insult.

[ QUOTE ]
I've never seen "reload" used as anything else but an insult. [/ QUOTE ] you mean just typing "reload" and nothing else is an insult? Or any attempt at all to get your opponent to reload you would consider an insult? FYI, I'm basically taking the policy at this point of sitting out when my opponent gets below 2 big bets, and then saying something like "do you want to keep playing?" / "sure" / "do you mind reloading?" Most of the time they just say sure and reload, sometimes they just leave, once in a while they get abusive and/or refuse. With the last group I just stay sitting out or leave the table. |

Re: etiquette on asking players to reload?
I think everyone here is missing the significant point that by asking him to reload, and your assuming your a better player than him, it allows you to win the maxmium in any hand you encounter. It enhances to the idea that in a limit game, you need to have enough bets to cap every street if 'that hand' comes along.
If a player does not go bust, works up a small stack he may hop shop, which also negates the idea that you will take his 1-2 bb's everytime, while in reality you will bust him only the majority of the time. |
