Default Too Big a Bet?

$200NL Blinds $1/$2

Table is not exceptionaly wild or tight.

Effective chipstacks all around $200.

Hero is on Button with Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

SB post $1, BB posts $2, UTG raises to $6, 4 middle position players call $6.

$33 in pot, Hero calls All-in for $200.

Is this too big of an overbet? Is there enough money in the pot to attempt to take down the pot right here? I was afraid a pot bet may yield 2 or more callers and did not want to play QQ in an inflated multi-way pot.

So you dont think the $33 is the pot is enough to attempt to take down uncontested rather than attempting to see a flop?

You're risking $170 to win $33.

Your only called by hands that beat you. Your in good position too, just reraise. QQ isn't that great. You don't have AA.

I agree that QQ isnt that great, but I think I have the best hand preflop and feel it can easily be beaten by many flops. I felt if I pot bet it at $33 I would get probably get 2 or more callers.

Would you have just pot bet it? Are you hoping for callers or do you just want to take the pot down right there? I think with 2 callers this hand can be difficult to play after the flop and can be costly. Or am I just a donkey who is scared of big pairs?

I hate QQ just like the rest of us. Personally raise pot, fold to reraise if a reraiser is a nit. Make it ~40 to go should be alright.

Gutter,

Not to be snoody or anything, but you may be better served in SSNL even though you are technically playing mid-stakes. It's just that your 2 posts on the front page (what to do w/ A-high flush on river; what to do w/ QQ pre-flop) seem really basic. Just an idea / suggestion, I don't really care where you post.

As for this actual hand, I think raising to about $30-40 pre-flop is fine. Arturius already pointed out you're risking a lot to win a little by pushing. I don't see JJ or AK calling so you're pretty much minimizing the value you get out of those hands while you'll still get called by AA and KK.

Another line I don't mind is just calling since you have position on everyone and you're likely to win a nice pot if you hit. I can see your point that you don't want to take a flop with $80 or so in the pot holding QQ but even if that isn't your cup of tea I'd prefer a call over a push. The risk : reward is so much better that way.
