Default Booger

I'm having this discussion at work about Curtis Armstrong and how, no matter what roles he does, he will forever be known as Booger. Who else falls into this category of being so strongly identified with a role? Chet? Daniel-san?

I think nearly every big-time TV actor runs into this problem, especially if the show is popular. Take the people from Friends, for example. Everytime I see one of them doing something else I'm immediately reminded and annoyed by their character on Friends. The notable exception to this would be David Schwimmer's excellent performance in Band of Brothers.

Would have to be Bill Paxton.

Definitely lots of TV actors because shows run so long, after you see a character for so many years you get used to it. But it's an interesting question for movie characters, where you might have one or two sequels, but that's it. For example, all my friends and I call Bill Paxton "Chet" but I've been asked for an explanation enough from strangers where I don't think it's universal. But everyone knows who Booger is, and Daniel-San.

I'm having a hard time coming up with one even close to those two.

My guess is Bill Paxton in Weird Science, but I disagree with him know forever as Chet. Plenty of other diverse roles after that.

Whichever one is not Keanu, yeah. But Keanu's done enough (Matrix, Point Break) where he's not solely identified with that anymore.
